July 2022 Junior Tournament Results

   We had two fantastic weeks for local junior tournament players. There were four junior tournaments in the Northern Region in just two weekends. A great two weekends for Northern Region junior tennis players. There was also a USTA World Tennis Number Banded event on Monday.

 518 Level 7 Tournament at Shenedehowa

On Saturday, Shenendehowa hosted the second leg of the 518 Tournament Series, and Chris Hanley did a masterful job. Many local kids played their first USTA tournament, with entries from as far away as Vermont. T Hats off to the Winners, Runners Up, and all who played.

 July Ten and Under Tournament at SPORTIME Schenectady

Sunday was the day for the Ten and Unders to play at SPORTIME Schenectady. Orange Ball and Green Ball players competed for points toward the Youth Progression. The tournament featured an exciting Final between Ronith Arvind and Nathaniel Russaliah.  Ronith lost the first set 4-0 and came back to win the second set 4-2. He won the match tiebreaker 7-5. Aiden Paul won the Orange Ball event, and Hans Werner came in second.

 518 Level 7 Tournament at the Saratoga YMCA

This past weekend the Saratoga YMCA hosted the 3rd tournament in the 518 tournament series. There were ten players in the Girls 14's and Boys 14's. Thihansa Waduthanthree was the top seed in the Girl's event, she was trying for her third consecutive win, but Nazek Gheith bested her in a closely played Finals match, winning the first set in a tiebreaker (7-4) and taking the second set 4-2. Vivek Venkat took the Boy's 14's, losing only five games in 3 matches. The Saratoga YMCA is also hosting the Series-ending tournament on August 27th. The top 16 players in each category qualify for the Series ending event.

 July Level 6 Tournament at SPORTIME Schenectady

SPORTIME Schenectady also hosted a tournament this past weekend - a Level 6 tournament. There were 3 Girls in the 16's and 7 Girls in the 14's. The Girls 14's draw featured some very competitive matches. Top-seeded Nisha Jayaprakash had to fight to beat Angela Li in the semi-finals 1-4, 4-1, 7-4. She lost a tough match to Jolie Chichak in the finals.

Every match in the Boys 18's was hard fought. Henri Pothier had to win two match tiebreakers to get to the Championships - which he won. Hayden Brown and Sam Yang had the most challenging match - 3-5, 4-2, 8-6. Rishab Arvind took control of the Boys 12's draw. He lost only five games in 3 matches. The largest draw was the Boys 14 Singles, where #1 seed Austin Li battled #2 seed Jacob Lyubarov in the finals. Austin won in a match tiebreaker 7-5.

Another big draw in this tournament was the 14 and Under Mixed Doubles event. Six teams competed in the Mixed Doubles Championships.
